Saltaire Stories: past, present and future – A Saltaire World Heritage Education Association project

Archivist (part time, 2-year contract) £14,820pa

Saltaire World Heritage Education Association (SHWEA) is a newly formed educational charity working to promote learning in Saltaire World Heritage Site. The Trustees of SWHEA have received a Stage 2 Heritage Lottery Fund ‘Heritage Grant’ for the Saltaire Stories project. This exciting project will upgrade the existing Saltaire Archive catalogue to make it accessible in a variety of formats online, create a range of learning resources and engage with schools and the wider community of learners. This significant project will promote the wider use of the Saltaire Archive and the Saltaire World Heritage Site as a “world classroom” and will train volunteers in skills such as conservation, archive management and engagement with education/tourism organisations.

An experienced archivist is needed with a track record of working with small, specialist multi-media archive collections and alongside a team of committed volunteers.

The post holder must be very organised and focussed on our objectives, ‘self-starter’ and able to communicate effectively across a range of stakeholders – from digital media experts, education specialists and historical researchers. Experience of Heritage Lottery Fund applications and projects relating to educational resources and archive management is also desirable.

The Trustees wish to recruit the Archivist to start as soon as possible. Two year contracts will run to 2019. The post is part time, based in Saltaire in the Archive which is based in Shipley College.
