Privacy and Cookies
What are cookies?
Cookies are packets of information sent from a website to a web
browser. Cookies are not directly visible on a web page, but
can have a number of 'behind the scenes' uses.
Cookies on the DIVA Bradford website
First-party cookies
While you are using the DIVA Bradford website, we use first-party
cookies in several ways. All first-party cookies are set, and
used, by DIVA Bradford and are not used by, or shared with, anybody
else.
The DIVA Bradford website uses first-party cookies for the
following purposes:
- To keep you logged in while you browse our website (session
cookies / automatic)
- To collect website visitor statistics. (session cookies)
- To keep you logged in between visits (persistent cookies /
opt-in only)
Session cookies
Session cookies allow website operators to link the
actions of a user during a single browser session.
On the DIVA Bradford website, session cookies keep you
logged in while you move between pages of our site. Without these
cookies, you would need to log in every time you moved from one
page to another. Session cookies are also used to feed site
usage data into the DIVA website statistics tool.
Session cookies only exist for the duration of a
browser session. A browser session starts when you open a
browser window and finishes when you close the browser window.
Thus, session cookies are created temporarily. Once you close the
browser, all session cookies are deleted.
Persistent cookies
Persistent cookies are stored on your device between browser
sesssions, and for a period of time specified in the
cookie itself. These cookies are activated each time a
user visits the website that created that particular cookie.
DIVA Bradford uses persistent cookies only with your explicit
consent. This happens if you tick the "Remember me next time"
box when you log in. If you tick that box, a persistent
cookie will be activated the next time you visit our
website, so that you are already logged in. DIVA Bradford's
persistent cookies persist for a year after your last visit to our
website.
Third-party cookies
To enhance or complement some of the pages of our website, we
sometimes embed photos and video content from websites such as
flickr and YouTube. Pages with this embedded content may present
third-party cookies from these websites.
Similarly, when you use one of the social sharing buttons on the
DIVA Bradford website (such as sharing via Twitter or Facebook), a
third-party cookie may be set by the service you have chosen to
share content through. DIVA does not control the dissemination of
these cookies. If you wish to know how each of these services use
their cookies, you should check the relevant third party
website.
Further information
If you wish to know more general background information on
cookies, the Wikipedia page for HTTP cookies would be a
good starting point. If you would like more information on
the use of cookies by DIVA Bradford, please get in touch and
we will be happy to answer your questions.
