URGENT - SEEKING VOLUNTEER COMMITTEE MEMBERS

URGENT - SEEKING VOLUNTEER COMMITTEE MEMBERS
WROSE ADVENTURERS ASSOCIATION

Would you like to use your skills to help and strengthen a small, established voluntary group working with disabled young people? Wrose Adventurers Association is urgently seeking some new volunteers to join their management committee, including a new Treasurer and Secretary, due to the retirement of the current post-holders.

We are a small, mainly parent-led group (unincorporated association), which provides a weekly (44 weeks per year) Wednesday night social club for young people with high functioning autism / Asperger’s, at Highcroft Youth centre in Wrose. We employ two part-time paid staff: a Coordinator (responsible for the weekly running of the club) and an Admin Assistant, and volunteers (parents and others) help out on club nights.

The club has been running since 1994, and in its present format, with a parent-carer management committee, since 2005. Whilst this has worked so far, we have found it difficult to recruit new members from our pool of parents, for understandable reasons - the group provides them with respite!

So we are now looking to find some new recruits – whether from inside or outside the group - who can inject some new blood and help renew our organisation.

We are a successful club, with a long-standing reputation as a place where our young people can relax and enjoy themselves. We currently receive grant funding from both adult and youth services, subject to annual budget decisions. There is constant demand for places (we operate a waiting list); our membership is around 35 and average weekly attendance is around 20.

Our Committee's role is to steer the group, take decisions on its overall direction, and provide financial and employer accountability. It meets 3-4 times each year. We are looking to apply for charitable status and therefore will be moving towards our committee members becoming Trustees.

We are looking for the following mix of skills and knowledge amongst our committee members. Knowledge / experience of:
• Autistic Spectrum Conditions
• Voluntary sector funding
• Charitable status
• Employing staff
• Secretarial and IT skills, minute taking (Secretary)
• Financial reporting and management (Treasurer)

If you can offer any of these skills and would like to help a very worthwhile group to continue to operate, please contact Jackie Halliday, WAA Chair on Mob: 07837 671703 or email her at jackie1halliday@btinternet.com
