Trustee Board Vacancy

Vital are seeking to recruit enthusiastic and committed individuals with a range of skills to the Trustee Board.  We require dynamic and motivated people who are sympathetic to the aims and objectives of Vital and can help the organisation to develop into the future following a major process of change.

Trustees contribute actively to the Board by giving strategic direction and governance support to the Charity and ensuring the charity’s effective and efficient administration and future financial stability.  There is no need to have trustee experience to apply and we want to have a wide range of people on the Board, and seek to be representative of the diverse population we work with.

Vital is a unique organisation and has provided Independent Advocacy support since 1989.  Advocacy is about supporting people to be heard or speaking on their behalf and particularly within the area of health and social care, or whilst trying to access health and social care services.  Currently we provide Independent NHS

Complaints Advocacy; Non Statutory Community Advocacy and specialist Mental Health Advocacy within forensics inpatients services in and around Bradford.

As an ‘Expert by Experience’ organisation we welcome interest from people that have personal experience of mental ill health; using mental health services or caring for someone that has experience of mental ill health.  This adds a passionate and unique dynamic to Vital.

Trustees are expected to:

  • attend monthly Board meetings (currently these are 6 weekly and on Monday afternoons)
  • contribute advice and support on an ad hoc basis; and
  • attend events as appropriate
  • Anyone interested in joining us as a trustee would need to become an approved member of the organisation as only people who have been members for three months can apply to become trustees. Information is available on the website: https://www.vitalprojects.org.uk/become-a-member

Provided you are eligible to be a trustee your role will be to provide governance and strategic support to Vital, by:

  • Ensuring that Vital is carrying out its purposes for the public benefit
  • Ensuring that Vital works within its own governing document and the law
  • Acting in the Best Interests of Vital at all times as a Trustee
  • Be responsible with other Trustees for ensuring that Vital resources are managed responsibly
  • Acting with reasonable care and skill and ensuring that Vital is accountable
