Better Start Bradford Partnership Board Member (community partner)

Closing Date: Fri, 14 Jul 2017

Closing time: 16:00

This is an exciting and unique opportunity for local people to make a real difference.

Better Start Bradford is a community led programme and the 12 Community Board members will be the voice of local parents and families within the Bowling and Barkerend, Bradford Moor and Little Horton Wards areas. They will work in partnership with Council and NHS leaders and play a major part in supporting and developing Better Start Bradford.

As part of the Partnership Board, you will be required to:

  • Attend and contribute to a range of meetings to ensure the effective governance of the programme. This includes monthly Partnership Board meetings and for example, theme group meetings to discuss the individual projects.

This will need preparation time, may need additional research or other work outside of meetings and some time spent gathering the views of families.

  • Be part of the high level decision making and monitoring of the programme, to ensure its successful delivery. This involves discussing and making decisions on a range of programme documentation such as the delivery plan, the risk log and the budget as well as any proposed changes to the planned programme.
  • Champion the views of pregnant mothers and families with children under 4 at the Board by discussing the programme and what they need with them regularly, and feeding that into the programme discussions and decisions at meetings.
  • Champion the Better Start Bradford programme in communities by actively promoting it locally and sharing our key messages.

We are looking for people who:

  • Are a resident in the Better Start Bradford area and are a parent / grandparent or carer. We are looking for fathers as well as mothers.
  • Are passionate about making a difference and improving people’s lives, working with people with a range of backgrounds.
  • Have experience of using services for babies and young children, such as midwifery, social care, nursery or children’s centres.
  • Have been involved with community activities at a decision making level which has involved reading reports, budgets etc.
  • Are able to speak with confidence in a large group of people and can encourage others to do the same.
  • Are able to see others’ points of view and can debate an issue calmly and assertively without judging others.

We offer support to all Board members to enable them to participate fully and this is tailored to their needs.
