Empower Your Community: Neighbourhood Councils and Devolution

Start date and time: 9th April 2019 7:00pm
End date and time: 9th April 2019 9:00pm

Do you care about the future of your neighbourhood? Are you concerned about the number of local amenities which have disappeared in recent times? And would you like to have a greater say over what happens to your community?

This talk will discuss the model of neighbourhood councils, how they work, the powers they have and how to set one up for your community. They can have involvement in a variety of local issues including planning applications, transport, policing and economic development and can provide more vision and leadership. Neighbourhood councils are directly elected and anybody who lives, works or volunteers in the neighbourhood can stand for election.

We will also look at alternative models to neighbourhood councils such as residents associations and how these can be granted some powers under the Localism Act.

This session is free and will take place at the Life Centre in Bierley, light refreshments provided. If you wish to attend then please either telephone or text Jonathan Crewdson on 07941 385306 or email him using mail@neighbourhoodproject.org.uk
