We are pleased to welcome from Edge Hill University Dr Allison Moore, a Reader in Sociology and Programme Leader for the Masters in Social Sciences (Critical Autism Studies), and Paul Davies, an Autistic autism trainer and Positive Support Instructor and also a Visiting Lecturer at Edge Hill, to discuss the under-researched and misunderstood area of autistic survivors of abuse and the trauma they experience.

In the year ending March 2019, the Crime Survey for England and Wales foundthat almost 1 in 4 (23.1%) disabled adults aged 16 years and over experienced crime compared with 1 in 5 (20.7%) non-disabled adults. We will examine some of the reasons why this may be the case with Autistic people. During the session, we will:

• Dispel some common myths about autism

• Discuss how autistic people may be more vulnerable to experiencing every day or microtraumas, as well as traumatic life events

• Consider what a trauma informed approach might look like when supporting autistic people
