Community Development Worker - HIV Prevention, Support & Skills Development

Yorkshire MESMAC is a group of independent community based sexual health and social wellbeing services that are committed to developing and delivering services that are responsive to the needs of our communities.

We are seeking to appoint the following:  Community Development Worker HIV Prevention, Support & skills development – Bradford (21 hours)

 

Overall Aim:

  • To reduce the incidence of onward transmission of HIV in Bradford.
  • To establish local community initiatives with People living with HIV, which explore needs in relation to social support and service provision and work towards meeting these needs.
  • To improve sexual health of populations most at risk of HIV and poor sexual health across Bradford through voluntary action.
  • To increase employability skills and independence in users of Bradford services. 

 

Prime Objectives:

 

  • To work with Most At Risk Populations (MARPs) for HIV including Men who have Sex with Men, African communities and People Living With or Affected by HIV (PLWH) to improve access to advice, information and guidance around HIV Prevention and Support needs.
  • To develop and support grassroots community forums, educative and peer support groups and events for PLWH and MARPs.
  • To deliver appropriate community based sexual health interventions including HIV point of care tests (POCT) to the target groups in community settings. To market these services and monitor and evaluate them. To work in partnership with appropriate agencies to develop these services further. 
  • To deliver support and self-management interventions to People Living with HIV.
  • To inspire, develop and deliver voluntary action across the Bradford District in particular;To ensure that Yorkshire MESMAC Bradford services have in place the systems and infra-structure to support people to become volunteers including recruitment, training, personal development, supervision, reward and recognition.
  • Social media and online outreach
  • Group co-facilitation and support
  • Community based STI and contraception testing outreach 
  • Outreach to health promotion events
  • Positive speakers and positive peer mentors
  • To develop and deliver a training programme for people from target populations enabling them to become community leaders, facilitating their own groups and delivering self directed voluntary action.

Salary:  NJC scale 5 (points 19 - 22) starting at £24,799 pro rata per annum for 21 hours per week. This is a 12 month fixed contract to provide maternity cover. There is a 5% workplace pension and membership of Simply Health (on completion of probationary period). Salary is reviewed annually. This post is subject to an Enhanced DBS with barred lists check.
