Little Minds Matter Community Engagement Coordinator

Hours: 22.2 hours per week

Job Function: To work in partnership between Family Action Perinatal Service and the Little Minds Matter Project both funded by Better Start Bradford. To take the lead role in establishing and driving forwards the new ‘community messaging’ portfolio around
promoting positive infant mental health needs, development and attachment within the Better Start Bradford population. This will be closely aligned and will be embedded in the work of Family Action’s existing Perinatal Support Service which is offered to all families in the perinatal period and Better Start Bradford area with emotional health issues/mild – moderate mental health needs.

Principal Accountabilities:

  • To consult with the Better Start Bradford community of parents on the best methods for getting infant mental health messages across and review the findings, using them to inform planning for the next phase of infant mental health work.
  • To lead on consultation with parents using our service and the wider community through engagement events.
  • To plan the dissemination of infant mental health messages using the appropriate methodology and existing service resources and staff
  • To work closely with the Little Minds Matter Service staff and ensure referral pathways are aligned.
  • To source, coordinate and plan access to the appropriate training around infant mental health messages for perinatal support staff along with clinical team partners.
  • To establish a data capture system for infant mental health messaging with service manager and outcomes officer/admin officer.
  • To contribute to the creation of an evaluation plan for the infant mental health messaging portfolio.
  • To regularly meet with other Coordinators (theme leads) for the Perinatal Support Team to ensure all the work is aligned.
  • To maintain systems for statistical monitoring and provide data to funders and Family Action in partnership with the Perinatal Service Manager implementing revisions to the service specifications as required.

Person Specification
Job Title: Little Minds Matter Community Engagement Coordinator
Location: Bradford

  • An appropriate social care, early years or health qualification e.g. social work, nursing, health visiting, counselling/family therapy (Diploma or above).
  • An excellent understanding of attachment, infant emotional health needs, infant brain development and how this may relate to parents with perinatal mental health issues. Also some understanding of ‘Mind-Mindedness’ as a concept in relation to babies and their carers.
  • Some knowledge of the National Lottery ‘A Better Start’ initiative and its development within Bradford. A sound understanding of the Better Start Bradford community needs.
  • A sound working knowledge of child and adult safeguarding issues in a multi-agency arena.
  • Understanding and experience of facilitating community consultation and experience of engaging with service users from marginalised communities and/or groups in a paid or voluntary capacity.
  • Experience of acting as lead or specialist resource within a diverse team.
  • A confident and professional approach to working with parents and colleagues and excellent verbal, listening and presentation skills.
  • Good IT and numeracy skills and ability to deal with electronic information management systems. 
  • The ability to work well as part of a diverse team.
  • Experience of training, supervising, motivating and developing volunteers and/or staff.
  • Ability and enthusiasm to work creatively and independently with an appropriate amount of supervision and as part of wider Family Action teams.
  • Knowledge of health and safety issues and an ability to take responsibility for the health, physical well-being and safety of the adults and children attending the service.
