Engagement Manager, part time

About us:

The Parents’ Forum for Bradford and Airedale (PFBA) works to support parents and carers of children and young people up to 25 years old, who have a disability or special educational need in the Bradford area.

About the role:

We are developing our organisation to be able to support more parent carers.

To do this, we are looking for an experienced person to represent the voice of parent carers at both a strategic and grassroots level.

The role will include:

  • Raising the profile of the PFBA via outreach work, for example meeting parents at events, coffee mornings etc.
  • Contributing at strategic meetings by sharing the views we hear from parent carers and their families.
  • Developing and maintaining links to service managers, schools, children’s centres, support groups and Child Development Centres at local hospitals.
  • Attending and reporting to Trustees.
  • Working closely with the PFBA Manager and Communications Officer.

About you:

The successful applicant will:

  • Knowledge and understanding of education, health and social care systems.
  • Have experience of working with parents and carers of children/young people with disabilities and/or special needs.
  • Experience of working in a people-facing role and establishing relationships
  • Be a confident communicator with people from different backgrounds and at all levels.
  • Have own transport as the post requires working at different venues.
  • Knowledge of issues involved with having a child/young person with disabilities/special needs, e.g. Education, Health and Care Plans.
  • Be able to work flexibly as the role is likely to require different days worked from week to week, and occasional evenings.
  • Have a current DBS check, or be willing to have the check carried out.

The post will be up to 18 hours per week. NJC pay scale (26) £24,799 pro rata, depending on hours worked. The contract will be for one year initially, with the possibility of extending this. There will be a probationary period of 3 months.
