Training & Employment Advisor (TEA – STEP 2)

Fixed term contract up to 31 December 2022 

We are recruiting for a Training & Employment Advisor (STEP 2) to join the Training Services team. The role is based at our Training Centre in Bradford, although some of your time will be spent supporting refugees out in the community in Wakefield, Calderdale and Kirklees, with occasional travel to Craven (Skipton). We are currently working remotely from home, but you may be required to spend some of your time at the Training Centre and other COVID-19 secure locations, in accordance with relevant Government guidance.

You will work directly with a caseload of Refugee clients who have resettled in Yorkshire under the Government’s Refugee Schemes, as well as those referred to STEP by DWP and other partner agencies.  You will prepare Refugees for competitive employment and help them to achieve their chosen training and employment objectives.  You will work to a variety of performance targets based on the progression outcomes of clients including successful completion of training courses, voluntary and/or paid work placements and achieving paid employment.

You will have experience of managing a caseload of clients, including completing assessments, developing action plans and providing appropriate information, advice and guidance. In addition, experience of strong partnership working, with employability organisations, employers, work placement providers, strategic partners and stakeholders.  You will be able to deliver workshop activities including job search, work readiness and related programmes. You must have an understanding of the issues and challenges faced by unemployed people to finding work, including those whose first language is not English.  A current knowledge of welfare benefits, particularly in relation to moving into work and a working knowledge of adult learning and vocational training services in West Yorkshire.

It is desirable to have or be working towards a Level 3 or higher qualification in Information, Advice and Guidance or have relevant experience in employment advice and clients moving into employment.
