Location: Scholemoor Beacon CIO, Scholemoor Community Centre, Dracup Avenue, Bradford BD7 2RJ
Salary: £13.53, depending on experience
Hours: 6 hours per week on Thursdays (this could be negotiable)
Contract Type: Fixed term for 2 years (may be extended subject to funding), with a 3 month probationary period
An Enhanced DBS check will be required for the role
About Scholemoor Beacon
Scholemoor Beacon is a Charitable Incorporated Organisation that works from the Community Centre in the middle of Scholemoor estate, Bradford BD7. We were established in 2009, but work to transform the old sports ground and develop services from the community centre have been going on for much longer.
The aims of Scholemoor Beacon are to ensure that we work with the local community of Scholemoor and surrounding area to:
We currently provide a range of services including community café, IT training, volunteering opportunities and exercise classes. We work in partnership with other agencies including Bradford Council Youth service and CHAS@StVincents.
This is a new service funded through NHS Charities Together and is to coordinate and develop 2 sessions a week that promote wellbeing, encourage self care and reduce health inequalities. This is partnership project and the lead partner is People Matters (West Yorkshire), a learning disability charity in Leeds. There will be opportunities in the life of the project to deliver some joint working bringing a community of interest and a geographical community together.
The role will involve coordinating the project, identifying speakers and activities, publicising the sessions, recruiting and supporting participants and leading 2 groups a week. The aim of the project is to be participant led and to deliver health messages by using activities. Health and Wellbeing Ambassadors will be recruited.
The workers will also from time to time be required to help with the day to day running of the centre and take part in staff meetings.

Main purposes of job
To coordinate and run group activities that promote well being, self care and reduce health inequalities.
Key tasks
To recruit and support participants to take part in sessions.
To encourage sessions to be participant led and identify potential speakers, activities or visitors that would promote wellbeing and self care.
To encourage local people to become Health and Wellbeing Ambassadors.
To work in partnership with Community Partnership 7 and the Social Prescribing Link Workers.
To deliver joint activities with People Matters
Working with People Matters develop a Project Steering group involving participants and stakeholders
To develop promotional material to publicise the sessions with partners and other agencies
To keep records of group sessions, identify any additional needs and signpost to appropriate services and other opportunities provided by Scholemoor Beacon.
To keep appropriate records and monitoring information as required by funder, lead partner and Scholemoor Beacon
To comply with Scholemoor Beacon policies and procedures, in particular with regard to:
To undertake any other duties that may be required, to reflect that changing needs and circumstances of the Befriending service and to support the overall objectives of Scholemoor Beacon
To work flexibly to deliver the service and meet the needs of participants as much as possible
Key results/objectives
Improvement to the health and wellbeing of local people, in particular mental health, loneliness and social isolation, diabetes, and coronary heart disease.
Better understanding of the needs of the community
