Board Members

Are you passionate about making a difference to the lives of others whilst gaining career building strategic skills and experience?

Awarded Best Supported Housing Landlord at the UK Housing awards, the Horton Housing Group works with people experiencing a wide range of circumstances, including homelessness, drug and/or alcohol issues, ill-health, unemployment and domestic violence.  We work with young people, older people, refugees, Gypsies & Travellers, people with disabilities and people with offending histories.  For over 30 years we have helped people live their best life through the provision of high quality housing, training, care and support. Based in Bradford, we provide services across Bradford, Kirklees, Calderdale and North Yorkshire.

Horton Housing Association and Chartford Housing Limited are both part of the Horton Housing Group and we have positions available on each organisation’s Board:

  • Horton Housing Association (HHA) provides a range of services for those who find it difficult to access statutory services.  HHA employs around 350 people supported by over 100 volunteers and is involved in the lives of over 5,000 people each year.
  • Chartford Housing Limited (CHL), a charitable company that is registered with the Regulator of Social Housing as a ‘Registered Provider’.  CHL is responsible for over 450 properties and aspires to grow sustainably, and to utilise the opportunities afforded by being a Registered Provider to do so, including developing supported housing and acting as a landlord/managing agent for supported housing provision.

As a Board Member, you will be involved in influencing the organisation to ensure that we successfully manage the challenges and significant change that the future is set to bring.  We need people who share our vision and values and are passionate about the work we do.  You do not need to have previous board experience, but you should be able to demonstrate good interpersonal skills, independence of thought and an ability to challenge constructively whilst making balanced and informed decisions.

We are keen to hear from individuals who have strong links to the diverse communities that we serve and can contribute to shaping our organisation’s strategic direction.

Our current Boards are not sufficiently reflective of the diverse communities we serve.  We are keen to change this and strongly encourage applications from women, younger people and those with lived experience or personal insight into the challenges faced by the people we work with. We welcome applications from people of all different backgrounds, regardless of protected characteristics or social background.  We also welcome applications from people looking to take their first step to develop board level and governance experience. We are particularly interested in people with a finance, legal or housing management background
