About the job

As an Organiser with ACORN, you will be responsible for recruiting, developing and supporting members to take action on issues affecting them and the communities they come from. 

As the role has a specific focus on organising with women across Bradford, it is a requirement of the position that applicants are women

Women are particularly affected by the issues that we organise around, whether that be housing, transport or community provision. As such you will have a focus on recruiting and developing women in local communities to become strong leaders who are able to take action on the issues affecting their lives and win. 

You will be a Community Organiser for ACORN in Bradford. Your daily work will involve: 

  • Recruiting individual ACORN members through door-knocking, social media and other means (door-knocking takes up around 50% of our organisers’ time),
  • Building and maintaining existing ACORN Local Groups and teams with a focus on organising with women in the local community,
  • Identifying, and taking action on, issues that affect our members and their communities, particularly those affecting women,
  • Identifying, developing and supporting potential leaders and identifying and addressing barriers women might face that might make them less likely to become leaders,
  • Researching and developing new methods of outreach to recruit women with families and older women who may be more isolated and developing them as leaders,
  • Supporting elected leaders to enable them to carry out their roles.

Qualifications

No formal qualifications are necessary. We’re primarily looking for someone with a strong work ethic, good listening skills and the ability to motivate others. 

Desirable

The desired candidate will have a proficiency in communicating in Urdu and/or Punjabi, so that they are able to communicate verbally and in writing with the communities we serve (no formal qualification required).
