Community Development Worker with responsibility for Volunteers

Job Description

Salary:   £26,511 per annum paid monthly

Holidays: 25 days per year + public holidays increasing to 30 days after 3 years’ service

Hours of work: 37 hours per week, occasional evening / weekend work may be required

Contract Duration: Fixed Term for 3 Years then dependent on securing further funding

Office Base: The Gateway Community Centre, Ravenscliffe, Bradford, BD10 0JR

Job Purpose

Specific Tasks and Responsibilities:

Community Development:

  • Plan and deliver creative and engaging consultation events and activities, to understand and gather information from a diverse range of people on local needs and issues.
  • Support residents to lead on community projects and the development and delivery of new groups, services or activities to meet needs or improve services in the community.
  • Liaise with all stakeholders including local schools, councilors, faith groups, other community and voluntary groups and local businesses to ensure their skills, knowledge and ability to connect and support local people is fully utilised.
  • Gather data and information continuously and comprehensively from multiple sources, utilising a variety of methods to accurately inform report writing, capture case studies and support recommendations for change with the wider team.
  • To research community issues for use by Ravenscliffe Community Association in internal and external development. This will include desk-based research and outreach work at events and door to door in the local community.
  • To support the daily work of Ravenscliffe Community Association when necessary for the good of the organisation and the communities of Ravenscliffe and Greengates
  • To attend relevant meetings as requested by the Centre Manager.
  • Identify potential volunteers through Community Development and link them into suitable opportunities in the centre and / or with community partners.

Marketing and Communications:

  • Undertake quality proactive and reactive media work, including leading on Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube in relation to Community Development, working with all members of the organisation to maximise usage and content.
  • Identify and develop opportunities for Ravenscliffe Community Association to raise its profile among key target audiences, in line with identified communications objectives.

General Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Maintain a database of activity, outputs and outcomes that will be used to report on activities to partners.
  • Work in co-operation with other team members, adhering to all policies and procedures.
  • Help to identify and agree a training and personal development programme.
  • Participate in regular supervision and appraisal meetings with the Centre Manager.
  • Participate in any internal / external meetings as required.
  • The specific duties and responsibilities of this job description are not restrictive, and the post holder will be expected to undertake any other duties within the scope of the role, as required by the Centre Manager and / or Board of Directors.
