Community Development Worker

Yorkshire MESMAC is a group of independent community based sexual health and mental health and  wellbeing services that are committed to developing and delivering services that are responsive to the needs of our communities.

We are seeking to appoint the following:  Community Development Worker - Leeds (22 hours)

Overall Aims:

  • To reduce the incidence of HIV infection in most at risk populations in Leeds (MARPs)
  • To reduce late diagnosis of HIV in communities most at risk of HIV. 

Prime Objectives:

  • To undertake outreach work, reaching Most at Risk populations (MARP) in settings; virtual and physical, where MARPs meet including where they meet to arrange sex; assessing need in relation to the safer sex and sexual health, monitoring and evaluating this work.  Examples: Public Sex Environments, semi-public sex environments and sex on premises venues, bars, clubs, community groups, parlours, hair salons, food shops, Black African Community groups, Community Centres in disproportionately affected areas, Gay and Bisexual and Trans community groups. 
  • To develop forums, groups and events that meet the needs of MARP communities: Black African Communities, Gay, Bisexual & men who have sex with men (MSM), emerging populations at risk of HIV transmission. Particularly focusing on those who do not access services and/or face barriers to accessing services e.g. Trans people, people selling sex, BME communities, asylum seekers. 
  • To offer information and sexual health resources including condoms and lube and PrEP information and referrals where possible and appropriate, to communities most at risk of HIV infection in a variety of settings; including over the telephone, face to face and over internet.
  • To deliver appropriate community based sexual health interventions including HIV point of care tests (POCT) to the target groups in community settings. To market these services and monitor and evaluate them. To work in partnership with appropriate agencies to develop these services further.

Salary:  NJC scale 6 (points 18 - 22) starting at £25,419 per annum pro-rated for 22 hours per week. Contract is reviewed annually. There is a 5% workplace pension and membership of Paycare additions. Salary is reviewed annually. This post is subject to an Enhanced DBS with barred lists check.
