Co-ordinator Working Refugees – Bradford

This post is funded by The National Lottery Community Fund. The  Co-ordinator will  manage and coordinate Engage  project and help African refugees Strive in Bradford and West Yorkshire.

The coordinator will work closely with the Bradford East African Community Committee to set up and oversee Engage Project. Helping refugees to improve their understanding of life in the UK, feel less isolated and feel more connected to Bradford and west Yorkshire. Develop knowledge that will support pathways into formal work and volunteering; sharing with the wider community how life has been transformed by coming to the UK and living in Bradford. The Co-ordinator will also manage and set up a project to help families and children remotely learn through the use of laptop computers distributed to families.

The postholder will manage a small team of 3 part time employees (3 project workers). The intention is to assist refugees grow and thrive in Bradford and West Yorkshire. Additionally, the post holder will assist the committee with ESOL classes, mentoring volunteers, and providing assistance to refugees with housing issues. In addition, he or she will help BAC plan for the future which will include establishing the future direction and finding funding sources. The Co-ordinator will also help evaluate the effectiveness of the project

Job Specification

1) Be able to manage the delivery of the project and meet the deadlines and  set  milestones for the project to achieve.

2) Be able to manage a small team of 3 part time workers.

3) Work closely  and sensitively with groups of volunteers.

4) Be able to work co-operatively with the BAC committee (trustees)

5) Have a clear idea of the challenges facing African refugees living in Bradford and the UK and how to over them

6) Be able to organise, set deadlines, meet targets as well be flexible and adaptable when needed.
